International Women's Day

Today, March 8th, is International Women's Day!

A day to celebrate the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women worldwide.  This year has a theme which is #BeBoldForChange.

Today also happens to be the international strike called "A Day Without Women."

Why?

To highlight the economic power and significance women have in global economies.

There are many ways to take part.  Here's what the organizers encourage you to do.

  • Don't go to work - paid or unpaid
  • Avoid shopping for the day
  • Spread the word
  • Donate - pick a women's organization and make a difference
  • Sign a petition
  • Wear the color red

A couple school districts in North Carolina and Virginia had to cancel classes today because so many teachers and staff took the day off.  The districts said the decision to cancel classes was not political.  Instead, it was just a response to the lack of staff.
