Tom Scholz Birthday song on Gater's Classic Cuts at 3:20pm

Today's birthday guy Tom Scholz took five years to write and finish our Classic Cut today. Tom worked in his basement in 1974 and 1975, before Boston got their recording contract. "More Than A Feeling" remains Boston's most popular song.

Boston's website says the song is about "the power an old song can have in your life," with Tom Scholz elaborating that "it was sort of a bittersweet ballad." Scholz's lyrics shows his lack of interest in the present and his longing a lost love, Marianne. Her memory is like an old familiar song. Tom said in an interview, when asked, "Who is Marianne?" He said "There actually is a Marianne and she wasn't my girlfriend." He said when he was 8 or 9 years old he had a crush on an older cousin because he thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. In his mind she was his secret lover. Tom also revealed the lyrics were also inspired by his emotions after a high school love affair ended.]
