The Miami Dolphins and Bradley Chubb on a five-year, $110 million extension days after acquiring the former Pro Bowl outside linebacker in a trade with the Denver Broncos, sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The reported extension includes incentives that could increase the deal to up to $111.25 million.
Sources told ESPN that Dolphins general manager Chris Grier, vice president Brandon Shore and Chubb's agent, Erik Burkhardt of Roc Nation Sports, discussed and completed the deal over the two-day period following the team's acquisition of Chubb just before Tuesday's (November 1) NFL trade deadline.
The 26-year-old was in the final year of his rookie contract prior to the reported extension, but Grier intended to sign Chubb to a long-term deal, rather than acquire him as a rental for the 2022 season.
"When you do a deal like that for a player, you always would like to -- from our perspective when we do business -- we would like to have something done, and we anticipate having something finished up here shortly," Grier said on Wednesday (November 2) via ESPN.
Chubb has recorded 5.5 sacks through his first eight games of the 2022 season and ranks third among all pass-rushers with a 25.8% pass rush win rate. New Dolphins teammate Jaelan Phillips -- a first-round pick in 2021 -- currently ranks fourth.
Chubb, a former unanimous All-American, ACC Defensive Player of the Year and Bronko Nagurski Award winner during his collegiate career at NC State, was selected by Denver at No. 5 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft and enjoyed a breakout rookie campaign, recording a career best 60 tackles, 12.0 sacks and 14 tackles for loss.
The Broncos exercised Chubb's rookie option on April 30, 2021, which guaranteed a $12.72 million salary for the 2022 NFL season, his last under his rookie contract.
