A Broward jury recommending life in prison without the possibility of parole for Jason Banegas who was convicted of killing a Hollywood Police. Banegas' attorneys successfully convinced jurors the now 23-year-old had such a troubled childhood that he should avoid the death penalty. The prosecutor argued Banegas knew right from wrong.
The defense said Banegas was trying to kill himself when he shot Officer Yandy Chirino twice in 2021.
Sentencing is scheduled February 18th.
