A New Zealand man's video of him grabbing a seagull out of the air when it was trying to steal his french fries is going viral but not in a good way.
The man in the video, which was posted to TikTok, is facing a wave of criticism after some viewers noticed the bird he snatched is a protected species, according to reports.
Apparently, the man grabbed a particular species of bird known as the red-billed gull, whose population is declining.
After growing criticism, the bird-catcher decided to post a follow-up apology video.
In the video, he explained that it all went down after a night of drinking as he waited for a taxi around four in the morning. The birds began circling him for his french fries and when one swooped down, he grabbed it reflexively.
The moral of the story is to never grab birds out of the air. And if you do, let them go before grabbing your phone to film.
