Surveillance video capture the moment an armed man attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old Florida girl as she was waiting for the school bus.
The incident happened Tuesday morning in West Pensacola, Florida. In the video, the girl can be seen sitting in the grass when a white Dodge Journey pulls up and stops nearby.
A man gets out of the vehicle, runs towards the girl, and tries to grab her. The girl manages to escape by kicking and fighting back enough to convince the attacker to run off without harming her. He got back into his vehicle and drives off.
"Luckily, she fights," said Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons. "When I say fights, she struggles. She went limp, she's kicking, she's pushing, she's punching. And she's able to get free."
According to the sheriff's office, the man stopped and spoke with the girl in Spanish a few weeks earlier which made her feel uncomfortable.
The girl's mother walked her daughter to the bus stop every day after that. However, Tuesday was the first day she didn't walk with her.
Investigators were able to find the suspect, who was armed with a knife, by tracking the vehicle and he is now in custody.
