A woman attempting to jump off a traffic overpass bridge over a busy stretch of I-95 was saved thanks to the quick actions of two Fort Pierce Police officers.

Early Tuesday morning, Officer Casey Miklosh was first to arrive on the scene after receiving a call about a person “praying” on the edge of the bridge. He found the woman visibly frustrated, and she refused to back away from the ledge.

A few seconds later, Officer Hayden Willis arrived and assisted by getting the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol to stop traffic along the overpass and on I-95.

The officers attempted to calm the woman down when she began making her way onto the ledge, appearing as if she was about to jump off the structure.

Both officers ran to the woman and put her in a bear hug to stop her from falling into the fast-moving highway traffic below.

“We have to see a lot of people at their weakest point, and it’s rough, but we have to make their worst day of their lives a little better,” Willis said.

Luckily, the woman had no injuries and was taken to a mental health facility for an evaluation.
