A Florida man was arrested Thursday after cops spotted him on a rooftop swinging an alligator around by its tail.

According to Daytona Beach Shores Police, 32-year-old William Hodge stole the reptile from a miniature golf course that keeps the gators on display.

Hodge took the gator to a building and attempted to throw it off the roof. After he failed, he let go of the reptile and stomped on it.

When the officers approached Hodge, he told them he was swinging the gator around to "teach it a lesson." It's unclear what the alligator may have done to deserve the abuse.

Luckily, the reptile was returned to the golf course. Hodge was charged with animal cruelty, possession and injury of an alligator, unarmed burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
