A Colorado man took care of one problem and created another after using a blowtorch to clear cobwebs from his mother's house.

39-year-old Jon Charles Streckenbach was arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson, criminal mischief causing $20,000 to $100,000 in damages, possession of a controlled substance, and violation of a protection order, according to reports.

Upon arriving, firefighters could see smoke coming from the roof of the single-story home, said the Boulder County Sheriff’s office.

Streckenbach says he used the blowtorch to clear cobwebs from inside the crawlspace, but it went horribly wrong. He tried for an hour to put the fire out but eventually called the fire department.

Luckily, no one was injured in the fire, but it caused around $100,000 in damages.

Police arrived at the scene and also discovered Streckenbach had a court order barring him from being within 100 feet of the home. However, his mother told investigators she had been allowing him to live there because he's homeless.
