Michael Jackson is getting a biopic, and it will be played by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson.

Unlike the Emmy-winning The Jacksons: An American Dream miniseries, the film will focus solely on Michael Jackson.

Jaafar, son of Jermaine Jackson, announced on Twitter that he was “humble and honored,” to play his uncle, Michael Jackson.

The movie “Michael” is being made with the cooperation of the Jackson family and estate, mimicking an “in-depth portrayal” of Michael and his journey to becoming the King of Pop.

The Jacksons released an Instagram statement last February discussing the film in the works. The account captioned a picture of the Jackson Five pop band, including Michael, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Jackie.

“Lionsgate will distribute a new Michael Jackson biopic that will be produced by ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’s’ Graham King.” The film will be directed by Antoine Fuqua and is set to begin filming this year.

“It will bring to life Michael’s most iconic performances as it gives an informed insight into his artistic process and personal life,” the post continued.

King said in the statement he conducted a “worldwide search” for the role of Michael and “was blown away by the way he [Jaafar] organically personifies the spirit and personality of Michael.”

Michael’s son, Prince, announced his excitement for the film that will embody his father.

“Truthfully I couldn’t be happier and prouder for him [Jaafar,] he’s been working his ass off and I know he’s going to do an amazing job. Just being himself, he embodies so much of my dad and I’m confident we are all going to do our best to show the world a part of my father they’ve never seen and that they deserve to see.”

The Jackson family is thrilled about the upcoming project.
