Miramar, FL - A confrontation between two customers at a Miramar Walgreens escalated into a fatal shooting, leading to the arrest of the alleged gunman.
Authorities report that the shooting occurred shortly before noon on Monday at the Walgreens located at the intersection of Miramar Boulevard and Palm Avenue.
According to Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss, an argument between two male customers inside the store resulted in one individual drawing a firearm and allegedly shooting the other.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Anthony Souvenir, was transported to a hospital in extremely critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
The suspected shooter, 28-year-old Jaime Taylor, was arrested and faces manslaughter charges, as confirmed by police.
Chief Moss emphasized that the altercation was isolated to the two individuals involved and did not pose a threat to other patrons.
"It looks like a dispute between two people that involved nobody else; it was well isolated, but unfortunately, it happened inside the store while they were open for business," Moss stated.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the argument but confirmed that Souvenir and Taylor were strangers prior to the incident.
"Nowadays, people pull out a gun rather than having a civil conversation; they pull out a gun and decide to do the unthinkable. This is one of those things where you’ve gotta be careful even with who you argue with these days," Moss added.
No other injuries were reported, but numerous witnesses were present during the shooting.
The police department is offering support services to those affected.
"Now one of the things that we’ve taken is the step of getting our social workers out and our victims’ advocates because a lot of people were in the store at the time, and obviously, this is a harrowing situation for them, so one of the things we’re doing is making sure they’re OK," Moss said.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
