A passenger on a Southwest Airlines flight was arrested in New Orleans Sunday night after allegedly jumping out one of the emergency hatches and running down on the tarmac at the Louis Armstrong Airport.
The plane was still parked at the terminal when the guy made his escape, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The unnamed man, who jumped out of the over-the-wing hatch which sits about six feet off the ground, was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The case has been referred to federal authorities.
A spokesperson for the Airport confirmed the chaos, saying, "There was an incident yesterday evening involving a Southwest Airlines passenger's unauthorized deplaning of the aircraft. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the incident."
